Our selection of fresh produce (especially fruits) varies seasonally, as do many of the farms we work with at any given time. The majority of our produce is grown in East Hawai'i, but we are slowly establishing sources all across the islands. We buy from certified organic farms whenever possible. Our produce suppliers are small-scale, and many are certified organic or implementing similar practices. Many of our farmers are hobbyists and backyard-growers, sharing their carefully crafted abundance in small but high-quality batches.
Hawai'i is home to four of the world's five major climate zones, which creates a wide array of ideal growing conditions for a long list of crops. The tropical conditions provide an impressive selection of the many varieties of fruits like avocado, mango, banana, and papaya. It also provides some exciting and unusual abundance of exotic fruits, like chico sapote, jackfruit, breadfruit ('ulu), durian, mangosteen, and many others. In addition to these, we also enjoy crops like strawberries, spinach, broccoli, and corn.
As purveyors of fresh food, we are aware of and concerned about the presence of the Rat Lungworm parasite on the island. Leafy-greens that are consumed raw are a particular area of concern. As a precautionary measure, all of our greens-growers actively implement preventative measures and treatments to control the slug population and potential contamination in their areas. These actions are combined with regular inspections of their produce by the growers and ourselves. These criteria help safeguard your family, as well as ours.
