Mammea Americana, also called Mamey Apple or tropical apricot, is a very firm fruit that softens just slightly when ripe. The skin cab be scored and peeled away easily to expose the lovely, orange fruit within.
The texture is firm, almost crunchy, like a softer version of mature coconut meat. The flavor is orange-citrus, nearly identical to the flavor of the once-popular powdered drink, Tang.
